South Korean convenience store giant GS25 is accelerating its expansion into Cambodia. A new store opened on October 29 in Phnom Penh’s Olympic area, taking over a former eMart24 location. The chain is reportedly planning to open 12 stores over the next two months, mainly in premises previously occupied by its competitor.
This expansion comes amid tensions surrounding eMart24. In July, South Korean media reported that seven stores had left the network following contractual disputes with the local operator.
Operating in Cambodia since 2024, eMart24 is nevertheless continuing its expansion, with plans to exceed 70 stores by the end of 2026.
The arrival of GS25, one of South Korea’s leading convenience store chains, could reshape competition in Cambodia’s growing convenience store market.
